Continuing on the series of talks by external experts, Mr. T. Gamage, Retired Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture, gave a talk on “Grafting Techniques” during the members’ monthly meeting held on 23rd March 2012.

He explained the different methods of grafting used for plant propagation, where special emphasis was made on the methods, which could be adopted in styling Bonsai plants

The Sri Lanka Bonsai Association conducted a presentation on Bonsai at the Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University , Anuradhapura, for the Undergraduates. It was conducted by the President of the Association, Mr.M.A.Pemasiri.

It was followed up with a Presentation and a Workshop at the Faculty of Agriculture, Sabaragamuwa University, Belihuloya. It was organized by Senior Lecturer, Dr. Kapila Kumara. Dean of the Faculty, Dr. H.S.R.Rosairo too particiapated. M/s Vinnie Gunaratne & Janaka Basuriya  assisted Mr.Pemasiri, in conducting the Workshop.

Annual Exhibition of the Sri Lanka Bonsai Association for the Year 2015, “Reflections 2015 – Living Images” was held on 3rd and 4th  October 2015, at the National Art Gallery, Colombo. Opening Ceremony was held on 2nd October. Madam Asako Okai, Deputy Ambassador for Japan in Sri Lanka was the chief guest.

Mr. Naveen Sooriyarachchi was the  winner of  the Japanese Ambassador’s Trophy for the Best Exhibitor on show. Ms.Pauline Herath won the awards for the Best Group of Bonsai on show and the Best Bonsai Collection. The award for the Best Bonsai on show, was won by Mr. Naveen Sooriyarachchi.

Over 200 Bonsai Plants of high quality along with a good collection of Suiseki. were at display. A large number of Bonsai Enthusiasts visited the Exhibition, held for two days.
Over 25 new members joined the Association, during the exhibition.

Reflections 2012, Annual Exhibition of the Sri Lanka Bonsai Association for the Year 2012, “Reflections 2012 – Living Images” was held between 24th and 26th August 2012, at the National Art Gallery, Colombo. Opening Ceremony was held on 24th August , with the Minister of the Japanese Embassy, Mr. Hideki Ishizuka as the Chief Guest. Mr. Ishizuka and Mr.K.Iwase, Second Secretary, Cultural & Information of the Japanese Embassy, gave away the awards for the winners in the competition category.

Mr. K.M. Thilakeratne, won the Japanese Ambassador’s Trophy for the Best Exhibitor on show, while Ms.Pauline Hearth won the award for the Best Group of Bonsai on show. Mr. Naveen Sooriyarachchi won the award for the Best Bonsai on show.

The Sri Lanka Bonsai Association recently donated a Pediatric Blood Pressure Apparatus and a stock of books and stationery items, to the Endocrine & Diabetes Unit of the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo. The pediatric BP apparatus has been an urgent need of the Unit, and The Association used the proceeds of the Last Year’s Bonsai Exhibition, to purchase the above items. This was made possible due to special donations received from few well-wishers.
